Short Bio of Premendra Nath Mazumder
Premendra Nath Mazumder is working on cinema in versatile capacities. As a film critic writes extensively in many publications worldwide. He is a regular columnist and contributes weekly column on cinema in a daily newspaper published from Kolkata. He is the President of the Film Critics Circle of India, Secretary of the Indian Film Critics Association and Secretary of the India Chapter of FIPRESCI: Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique. He is working as the advisor, program director and curator for several International Film Festivals in home and abroad. He has served in the Jury of many International Film Festivals of the world. He has authored a book on Indian Cinema. He has delivered many lectures and conducted many workshops in different film festivals and educational institutions on the cinemas of the Indian subcontinent. He is an activist of the film society movement for more than four decades and was elected as the Asian Secretary of the International Federation of Film Societies. Presently he is holding the post of the Vice President of the Federation of Film Societies of India.

PPREMENDRA NATH MAZUMDER is working on cinema in versatile capacities. As a film critic, writes extensively for various publications worldwide. Authored a book: ‘Hundred Years of Indian Cinema’ in Bengali. Edited several film journals. Worked in the Editorial Board of the ‘Dictionary of Asian Cinema’ published in Oct 2008 by the ‘Nouveau Monde Editions’, Paris. Member of the ‘Federation Internationale Presse de Cinematographique (FIPRESCI)’ since 2001 and presently holding the post of the Secretary of the India chapter of the organization (FIPRESCI-India). Contributed on cinema for the international publications like: ‘Positif’ (Paris), ‘Film Realm’ (Cairo), ‘Cinema’ (Portugal), ‘Screen’ (Mumbai), ‘DNA’ (Mumbai), ‘Cinemaya’ (Delhi), ‘16MM’ (Dhaka), ‘Filmbuff’ (Kolkata), ‘Chitralipi’ (Kolkata), ‘Deep Focus’ (Bangalore), ‘Indian Film Culture’ (Mumbai/ Bangalore / Kolkata) and several others. Contributes regular weekly column titled ‘Bioscope’ in a popular Bengali daily published from Kolkata. Authored the chapter ‘Music in Mainstream Indian Cinema’ for the ‘Routledge Handbook of Indian Cinemas’ published from London in Apr 2013. Edited the book ‘The Poet of Celluloid’ published by the Federation of Film Societies of India (FFSI) in Feb 2014. Attended interactive sessions for promotion of cinema with the filmmakers of Mongolia and Ulaanbaatar City Government at Ulaanbaatar Film Festival, Mongolia in Apr 2005. Delivered presentation in the International Workshop for the Promotion of Myanmar Cinema in Yangon in Dec 2012. As a special guest attended Eurasia Film Festival Almaty City Kazakhstan in Sept 2007, Cairo International Film Festival in Nov 2012 and Alexandria Film Festival in April 2018. Presented special paper with audio-visual presentation on the ‘Image of Women in Indian Cinema’ at the Subversive Film Festival in Zagreb, Croatia in May 2011 where he also participated in the panel discussion on Indian Cinema and contributed several articles on Indian Cinemas including the theme article on the ‘Impact of Radical Political Movements on Indian Cinema’. He took part in the seminars on ‘Politics of Cinema and Social Dynamics’ and ‘Trends in South Asian Independent Cinema’ in Dec 2015 at Kathmandu. As a guest faculty attended the International Film Workshop of Nepal in Kathmandu and Dolakha in Feb 2012. Participated as the speaker in the National Seminars on Cinema & Society at Dibrugarh University in March 2012 and at Siliguri College in March 2013 both sponsored by the University Grant Commission of India. Organized the Celebration Ceremony of 100 Years of Indian Cinema in Zagreb and Split at Croatia in May 2013. Presented his paper on ‘Indian Cinema: Bollywood & Beyomd’ in the Film Market of the Eurasia International Film Festival at Astana, Kazakhstan in July 2018. Presented Cinema of India section in the Carthage International Film Festival Tunisia in Nov 2018. Participated the Asian Film Critics Conference in Dhaka International Film Festival in Jan 2018 and Jan 2019. Delivered his presentation on ‘Film Education in India’ in Kazan International Muslim Film Festival in Apr 2019.
As a special invitee attended the International Festival of Film Societies in different cities of Italy for consecutive five years from 2003 to 2007. As an International Critic and Curator he has participated the International Critics Week of Cairo International Film Festival in Nov 2014. Participated in different seminars, symposiums and workshops in Chennai International Film Festival, Third Eye Asian Film Festival Mumbai, Bangalore International Film Festival, Hyderabad International Film Festival, Assam International Film Festival, Guwahati International Film Festival, Kalinga International Film Festival Bhubaneswar, Kashmir World Film Festival Sri Nagar, International Film Festival of Bangladesh and others. He works as the advisor, curator, consultant and programmer for several film festivals in Asia, Europe, Africa and America. He organizes film appreciation courses and film workshops in India and abroad. He has delivered lectures on Indian Cinema to the students of different Universities in Carthage, Tunisia and Kazan, Russia.
He is a film society activist working from the grass-root level to apex level for more than four decades. Participated the 3rd World Conference of Film Societies and the General Assembly of the International Federation of Film Societies (IFFS) at Recife, Brazil in Dec 2010 as the official delegate of India where he got elected as the Secretary-Asia of IFFS for the term 2010-2012.  He held the posts of the Vice President of the Federation of Film Societies of India from 2010 to 2014 and also the post of the General Secretary of Federation of Film Societies of India from 2014 to 2016. Presently he is holding the posts of the Secretary of Fipresci-India, General Secretary of Indian Film Critics Association, President of the Film Critics Circle of India, Vice President of the Federation of Film Societies of India,  Program Director of the Third Eye Asian Film Festival Mumbai, International Consultant of the Nepal International Film Festival, Festival Coordinator of the South Asian Short Film Festival Kolkata, Mentor of the Film and Television Institute Kolkata and Advisor of several International Film Festival worldwide.
